Winter bachelorette party: an evening fully indoors, and 8 ideas for the night

For the friends and sisters planning a bachelorette, or hen party, between November and March. What changes when it's cold outside, what makes the evening, and what to do in it.

In short

A winter bachelorette party moves indoors, and what matters most is one place for the whole evening: closed just for your group, with food, bar and music in the same room, so nobody steps out into the rain between stops. Start early, at 19:00, book taxis in advance, and plan nothing that depends on the weather. For a group of 15 to 50, book 1 to 2 months ahead.

Most of the bachelorette ideas going around online were written for summer. If the wedding is in spring, the bachelorette (the hen party, for British readers) happens in winter, and the rules change. The days get shorter, it rains, and nobody wants to stand outside in a dress. In Tel Aviv, winter runs roughly November to March, with most of the rain in December to February. This guide is built for an evening that happens entirely indoors.

What makes a winter bachelorette party work?

Everything indoors

Food, bar, seating and dance floor in the same space. A place where half the party happens on a balcony works in August, not in January.

One place for the whole evening

Instead of three stops around the city, one place from 19:00 to the end. Nobody gets wet on the way, and nobody gets lost between stops.

Closed just for you

In winter, public places are fuller in the evenings. A place that closes for your group means the music is yours, the tables are yours, and the embarrassing games stay inside.

Music you choose

A playlist you send ahead, or a DJ, on a real sound system that can hold a dance floor.

A projector and a microphone

For the couple's slideshow and the toasts, already in the room, with no carrying equipment through the rain.

What not to plan in winter

A plan for rain

Taxis or a shuttle

On a rainy night, 20 women hunting for parking arrive late and in a different mood. Taxis booked in advance, or one shuttle, save you that, and also settle the question of who's driving.

An early start

Start at 19:00. In winter people get tired earlier, and a party that starts early lasts longer.

8 ideas for the evening itself

1. Who said it?

Collect quotes from the groom via his friends, and the bride guesses whether he really said them. 15 minutes, guaranteed laughs.

2. A how they met slideshow

Photos of the couple from the beginning to today, on the projector. Ask the groom for photos in secret.

3. A quiz about the groom

10 questions the groom answered in advance, and the bride has to guess his answers. Every wrong answer, a sip.

4. A cocktail named after the bride

One cocktail on the menu with her name or nickname. Ask the bar to build it around her favourite drink.

5. The couple's playlist

Their songs, from the first date to the proposal, mixed into the evening's playlist. The bride recognises every one.

6. Greetings from friends abroad

20 seconds from each friend, edited into a 2-minute video and screened after the food. For a bride whose school friends live in another country, it's often the moment of the night.

7. Letters to the bride

Everyone writes a short note, and the bride reads them at home, the next day.

8. Dancing at the end

After the games and the food, the music goes up. It's the part most of the group came for.

A 4-hour schedule for the evening

TimeWhat happens
19:00Arrivals, first cocktail
19:45Food
20:30Slideshow, quiz and Who said it?
21:15Toasts
21:30Music and dancing
23:00The end, taxis
About the group. From the enquiries we get, the group almost always ends up smaller than the first WhatsApp group suggested. Book for a cautious estimate, and update the number a week before.

A bachelorette party at Ezra

Ezra is a private bar in Tel Aviv that closes for one group per event, most groups 20 to 50 and up to 60 guests. In winter it ticks off the whole list above: everything indoors, one place for the whole evening, a bar, food from the taboon (a wood-fired clay oven), a PA (two main speakers, a subwoofer, four monitors, a mixer), two microphones and a projector with a fold-out screen for the slideshow. A group of 15 to 30 gets a different layout from a group of 50. There's no parking on site, only paid lots nearby, so on a rainy night taxis are the better call.

We build the evening around how many of you there are and what you want to happen in it, and a proposal arrives within 24 hours, in English. The details are on bachelorette parties at Ezra.

The bottom line

A winter bachelorette party moves indoors. Pick one place for the whole evening, closed just for your group, with food, bar and music in the same room. Start at 19:00, book taxis in advance, and save anything that depends on the sun for summer.
