Someone opened a group without the bride, wrote "so what are we doing?", and now 18 friends are waiting for someone to decide. If that someone is you, this guide gives you the three decisions in order: where, what to bring, and how the night runs. Call it a bachelorette, a hen party or a farewell to single life, the bride-to-be only needs to know one thing: when to be ready and what to wear.
Why a bar that closes just for you?
The whole place is yours, for anywhere from 15 to 60 friends, and the entire night happens in one spot. That's the format of a bachelorette party at Ezra, and here's what it saves the organisers.
Everything in one place
Food, bar, seating and a dance floor in the same room. No taxis between three venues, and no losing half the group on the way.
No cooking, no cleaning
Food, drinks and production are on the venue, with one contact person. You bring only the personal things: sash, sign, game, cake and gift.
Someone producing it for you
One contact person who knows the schedule, drops the music when the game starts and brings it up when the cake comes out. The organiser gets to celebrate with everyone else.
Your music
Sound, lighting and a microphone for toasts are already in the room. Send a playlist in advance, and the dance floor opens when you decide.
What do you bring, and what does the venue provide?
This list is the difference between a night that comes together in a week and one that takes a month. At a bar that closes just for you, the heavy lifting is already there.
What you bring
- A costume or prop for the bride (veil, crown, glasses)
- A sash for the bride, maybe for everyone
- A sign or balloons with her name
- A game or a "how well do you know the groom" quiz
- One gift from everyone, collected in advance
- Cake and candles
- A ready playlist, or a DJ you've booked
- A Polaroid camera and film for an album
- A list of who's coming
What the venue provides
- Food: a buffet or sharing plates
- A bar: cocktails, wine, beer
- Sound and lighting in the room
- A microphone for games and toasts
- A projector and screen for a video or slideshow
- A DJ, if you want one
- One contact person producing the evening
What's included at Ezra
Food from the taboon (a wood-fired oven), a bar, a PA with two main speakers, a subwoofer, four monitors and a mixer, a projector and fold-out screen, two microphones, and the option of a DJ. Every item on the venue list is one less thing someone has to carry in a taxi.
Kashrut
Ezra has no kashrut certificate and is open on Shabbat. The menu is dairy-vegetarian only, with no meat, fish or seafood, which is worth knowing early if the bride or some friends keep kosher.
How does the night run, hour by hour?
Here's a schedule for Friday noon or Saturday night, the two slots organisers ask for most. Friday noon (shishi tzohorayim) is a party slot in its own right in Tel Aviv, and Saturday night starts after Shabbat ends. 4 to 5 hours, in this order.
| Friday noon | Saturday night | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 13:00 | 20:30 | Arrivals, the bride comes in last, costume and sash |
| 13:15 | 20:45 | Bites and drinks, the Polaroid goes round |
| 14:00 | 21:30 | Game or quiz, with a microphone |
| 14:45 | 22:15 | Food, short toasts, the gift |
| 15:45 | 23:00 | Cake, and straight after it the dance floor |
| 17:30 | 01:00 | The end, taxis |
The only rule: game before food, cake before dancing. Once the dance floor has opened, nobody goes back to a game.
What do you do in each of the 6 weeks?
6 weeks before: the date
Settle a date with the bride (or with the groom, if it's a surprise) and open a group without the bride. Ask "who's in?" to find out if you're 12 or 25.
4 weeks before: the venue
With a range for numbers and a date, book the venue. For Friday noon and Saturday night in a busy season, book 6 to 8 weeks before. What makes an evening for a small group work is in our guide to a small event venue in Tel Aviv.
2 weeks before: final numbers
Count who's really coming and update the venue. Order the cake and the gift.
1 week before: props
Costume, sash, sign, printed game, Polaroid film. Split who brings what, so you don't end up with 3 signs and no candles.
What should you know about logistics in Tel Aviv?
Taxis, not cars
A bachelorette with a bar is a night you arrive at and leave by taxi. Arrange 4 to 5 taxis for the end in advance, or split by neighbourhood in the group. An address that's easy to stop at matters more than a car park.
End time
Agree the end time with the venue in advance. On Friday noon the party usually ends at 17:30 to 18:30, and whoever wants carries on in town. On Saturday night, set the end time in the agreement, not on the day.
Paid parking nearby
In central Tel Aviv there's no free parking near most venues, and there are paid car parks a short walk away. Whoever does come by car marks herself as the one not drinking.
The bottom line
A bachelorette party in Tel Aviv takes 6 weeks to plan: date, venue, final numbers, props. For 15 to 25 friends, a bar that closes just for you provides the food, bar, sound and microphone, and you bring the sash, sign, game, cake and gift. Game before food, cake before dancing, and taxis at the end.
